Creative Dragon Giveaway

Posted by on July 2, 2013

I am so excited to be part of the Prism Book Tour of Dragonwitch as well as another exciting Release Day Blog Hop coming up in the near future, and to top it all off, I get to do my very own giveaway of a paperback copy of Dragonwitch. How cool is that?

Chalk art with the kiddos 🙂

So how might you win this paperback copy? Good question!

Alright, creative types. Make a dragon! You can draw, paint, sculpt, scrapbook, sew, knit, bake, anything! Be it stick figures or elaborate paintings, chalk, charcoal, or digital, whatever medium you choose. Write a poem or a flash fiction story (no more than 600 words). Be creative!

And it can be something you’ve already made. Please share! As the art comes in, I will post on my Facebook page or blog throughout the month of July. On the 31st, I will have a grand post with all the submissions. Then I will have the rafflecopter pick a winner at midnight of August 1st.

Not the creative type, you say? Never fear, I have something for you as well. Please share with us, in the comments, your favorite dragon themed book, movie, poem, quote, art.

*This contest is open to US residents only.

So go be creative and have fun! We’ll be seeing a lot of dragons this month. 😉

What an AWESOME idea for a giveaway! I might have to enter something just for fun.

Hmmm…favorite dragon book. Well, that would have to be ‘Tales of Goldstone Wood’. But the dragons are so EVIL in there, and I used to like dragons. Donita K. Paul’s books were enjoyable, and I did love the interaction between Eragon and Sapphira.

  2. Kathleeen

Ditto with Hannah, omg, lol. Of course I must also add tolkiens works in as well the hobbit and such. And also C.S Lewis and Emily Rodda. So many amazing authors. I have already just spent a day drawing my creative piece, sooooo much fun 🙂 can’t wait to see what other poeple enter!

    This is a awesome idea

    • jlmbewe

Thank you Kathleen! I can’t wait to see what you came up with!

  3. Kathleen

Um I got a question, how exactly do I enter my entry? Do I just email it to you and then in the box in the raffle copter write my name?! I’m confused.

    • jlmbewe

Hi Kathleen! Sorry about the confusion! Yes, please email me the piece with the email address provided on the rafflecopter, and then on just enter your email address or name in the copter option box and press enter, so that the copter has a record of you submitting it. I will make sure that everyone’s submission piece is accounted for. Can’t wait to see what you put together!

  4. Kathleen

Ditto with Hannah, but I would also have to add tolkiens books, C.S Lewis and Emily Rodda! So many good authors 🙂

    • jlmbewe

Oh, I haven’t heard of Emily Rodda, but her books look great! Will have to check them out. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Liz Riggs

Hmm my favorite dragon reads would have to be Eragon and The Hobbit!

    • jlmbewe

Hi Liz! Thanks for sharing! I did enjoy Eragon, I have yet to read the final book in that series. One of these days!

  6. Beth

Not the artsy type unfortunately! But I did love Donita K. Paul’s Dragon Spell books, and when I was younger I remember loving Patricia C. Wrede’s Enchanted Forests books – complete with a princess and dragon, of course! Also, Bruce Coville’s Land of the Unicorns books featured dragons and they were very impressive. I’ve always been fascinated by dragons!

    • jlmbewe

Hey Beth! Thanks for sharing! Patricia C. Wrede’s is on my to-read list. I have not heard of Bruce Coville before, I shall look him up. Thanks!

  7. Alyssa Fryberger

There are so many books with dragons of so many types in them. I love Tolkien,s dragons and of course Anne Elisabeth Stengl’s books. There is also a series called the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica that have a fun take on dragons as well as making some fun literary references.

    • jlmbewe

Hi Alyssa, thanks for sharing! I haven’t heard of the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica, I will have to look them up.

I cannot wait for Dragonwitch! My favorite dragon-related book . . . it’s a tough decision. I’d say Tales of Goldstone Wood, but I like good dragons, so . . . either the DragonKeeper series by Donita K. Paul or the Dragons in Our Midst series by Bryan Davis.

I’ll have to see about making a creative dragon of some kind. Not sure what kind, but I’ll think of something.

    • jlmbewe

Hi Sarah! Yea, I can’t wait to see what you’ll make! Thanks for sharing!

  9. Molly R.

How much fun! This would be great to enter to! (ooh and I love your blog background!!)

    • jlmbewe

Please do! And thanks! We tried to get it situated right so we could see the stairs and the falls, but I’m contemplating changing it, maybe. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by! I hope to see some creative endeavor from you. 🙂

  10. Molly R.

Oh yeah, and my favorite Dragon book is definitely ‘Starflower’ by Anne Elisabeth. 🙂

    • jlmbewe

Hi Molly! Thanks for sharing! I love Starflower too, although, I would be hard-pressed to choose a favorite among the Tales of Goldstone Wood, they just keep getting better and better! Have you read Dragonwitch yet?

  11. Meghan Stith

I really like the movie ‘The Water Horse.’ It’s cute and funny!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    • jlmbewe

Hi Meghan! I have wanted to see that movie, but completely forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me!

  12. Cindy Barton

My favorite is a poem by H. D. C. Peplar from 1916. Simply titled, Dragon Poem.

    • jlmbewe

I have not heard of that one, I don’t think. I will look it up. Thanks for sharing!

  13. Tammy Sotela

What a great idea! Thanks for the opportunity.

  14. Abby Cashen

Wow! This sounds like so much fun! I have to say my favorite dragon themed book would either be the Tales of Goldstone Wood or J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.

    • jlmbewe

Hi Abby! Thanks for sharing! I hope you will participate! Can’t wait to see what everyone will create. Thanks!

  15. burgandyice

Nice!!! I will track down my mini-story for you. Lol. My fav dragons come from Ann McCaffrey & the Dragonriders of Pern. I love the emotional communication. Her first books are some of my fav’s of all time. I like Sophie Jordan’s, too… becoming a dragon. These are a tad more… un-realistic, maybe, compared to Anne Elisabeth’s. The way she describes the fire burning from inside? That’s probably what it would feel like to be a dragon. And Tolkien’s is not safe to approach. Lol. Dragons are a dance with fear, hey? Great giveaway. I’d love to win a print copy. 😀

    • jlmbewe

Hey! Would love to read your mini-story! Dragon are an interesting study, especially if you compare eastern dragons with western. My friends have already thrown stones at me for forgetting to mention the Dragons of Pern. Whoops. 🙂 I definitely made a connection with Anne Elisabeth Stengl’s dragons with burning within akin to the anger/rage I struggle with. Thanks for participating and I look forward to reading your story and sharing it with everyone. 🙂

      • burgandyice

😀 I forget eastern dragons… Eon is fun for those! 😀 Very eastern. Thx for reminding me! It’s hard to remember all the great books at the same time. We’ll see when I get to that story… it’s in my head. Now I just need five minutes OF QUIET AROUND HERE! Lol.

        • jlmbewe

          Right! I’ve got a 4 year old and a 2 year old. I understand. Ha! 🙂

  16. Molly R.

Ack, no I haven’t read Dragonwitch! My friend has and she keeps telling me about it…as soon as I can, I’m going to bury myself into it. :p

    • jlmbewe

Hi Molly! It was sooo good. I hope you get to read it soon!

  17. Konstanz Silverbow

One of my all time favorite dragon books is actually The Forest Chronicles by Patricia Wrede! Brilliant books!!! I love dragon everything! Favorite band? Imagine Dragons!

Thank you so much for the awesome contest!

    • jlmbewe

Hey! Patricia Wrede is on my to-read list. I need to get cracking with this reading list. 🙂 Just went and looked up Imagine Dragons. Wow. They have a cool sound! Thanks for sharing!
