End of Another Year

Posted by on December 30, 2013

Can you believe it?

Does time hit warp speed when we become parents? This year has flown by so fast, I’m having a difficult time processing my usual end of the year reflections. Ha!

It’s been an amazing year, a crazy year. Filled with the awesomeness of connecting with you all, special guests, interviews, cover reveals, and such.

  • We celebrated the release of Anne Elisabeth Stengl’s Dragonwitch with a Creative Dragon Contest and an awesome guest post by Robert Mullin, Do you believe in Dragons?
  • In honor of Liam, my protagonist’s wolf, we threw a Pet Lover Contest with a whole host of special guests sharing stories about their own pets, and you all sending in photos of yours.
  • We saw the release of the Tales of Nälu: Desert Rose, Dragon Thief, and Indestructible.
  • And then we celebrated the release of Secrets Kept with a costume contest. Awesome photos, y’all rock!
  • This year we saw my Dreams Reborn.

A lot of firsts this year. First interview, first contract, first book published, first born going off to school, first local book fair, etc. Oh, wait! Did I forget to share that with you? Eek! Must remedy that soon.

I had a lot of goals, visions, dreams for how I would operate this year, knowing full well the need for balance between work and rest, and never quite grasping the latter. Rest? What’s that? I’m a MOM.

Then it hit me. I sort of dove into this mess in the same way I thought I would tackle parenting as a first time mommer. Oh, how I had such elaborate dreams of teaching three different languages (four counting sign-language), shapes, colors, numbers, etc. You name it, I thought it. I read all those parenting magazines and what not. I had a dream. And on top of it all, I was going to raise a writing career alongside it all.  And then I had a kid. And another one. Y’all can stop laughing now.

So, with the writing thing… I had read blogs, magazines, and books–hey, this was ten years in the making–I was diving in eyes-wide open, yet I was still blindsided. We can only prepare so much, and life doesn’t quite make sense until the rubber hits the road, and we end up all splattered on the pavement.

Needless to say I’m not even closer to achieving any sort of balance between reality and dreams. It wasn’t too long ago that I had blogged about Pruning Back on my old blog. And where am I now? Ha! The problem is I WANT to do it all. Crazy, eh? So, here again, stepping back and finding that balance between reality and dreams. I’ve got a book to finish.

So, how was your year?

You know, we did a lot of celebrating this year, and this little blog in the far off corner of cyberspace wouldn’t be the same without y’all! I am so thankful y’all have joined me on my journey. Thank you!

Wow, it’s been quite a year! What are your goals for next year? Or will that be a new blogpost? 🙂

Hi Kessie! Yes, it has been quite a year, but I can’t imagine as quite so busy as yours with the new addition to y’alls family! Congrats again! special times! This year, I’m still processing and it will most likely be a new blogpost. But for sure I want to see the sequel polished up and ready for print, but we shall see how that goes. Thanks for stopping by!

I love hearing from you!
