Happy 2017 & A Progress Report

Posted by on January 9, 2017

Happy 2017 fellow adventurers!

I had really wanted the next time I posted on here to be able to share with you that I had finished book three, but I realize that probably was a bad goal and so 2016 left us with no goodbyes or reading check-lists or Christmas wishes.

That said, I am soooooo close to finishing book three. I am writing the final GREAT BIG BATTLE scenes. So I checked this book out for a bit of light reading. ๐Ÿ˜›

Might take me a while at my pace.

As 2016 marched to the end, I had yet to think about my vision board like I have done in times past. So guess what I did December 31st? Yep. Even though I had limited time putting it together, I am pretty pleased with it. Of course, some of it was a carry over from 2016. I added a few items since taking this picture like Twilight Sparkle to help me remind me to take time for friendships because they are so important!

Despite all my goal planning and vision-boarding (that’s a word, right?), 2017 has already blown me out of the water. I got a message on January 2nd about a possible job opportunity and by January 3rd, I had an interview and was offered the job. I will begin working as PPCD aid at my daughter’s school. The teachers and staff there have been awesome since I first entered the whole public school scene when my son began preschool three years ago. I am excited to join their team and look forward to working with them to make a difference in the lives of the students.

I will continue to work on book three and keep you posted! So that’s where I’m at.

How did you say goodbye to 2016 and welcome in 2017? Anything exciting planned for this year?

You sound like Heromine! Lol. I have a simple goal and a daunting one. The simple goal is to unsubscribe to all the emails I don’t need. Sure I may have bought one or two things from that sight. But I don’t shop there all the time and don’t need or want the emails. All I do is delete them. So I’m unsubscribing and hopefully simplifying my email. Second: I’ve set two writing goals: 1. Improve marketing and start making some money if not a living from this profession. 2. (I hesitate to even say this) publish four novels and three novellas on 2017.
My husband tried to discuss summer vacation plans for July and all I could think of was: baby, that’s three books from now! I can’t think about that now! Lol. So goes it.
I hope you enjoy your new job and I know you’ll be an asset the the kids of the school!

Thank you so much Lynn! Wow, four novels and three novellas??? That is ambitious! So….July, no Reno, Nevada for you guys?? Realm Makers 2017??? Ha! But I hear you! It is hard to think so far in advance when so much is expected between now and then. Hope you have a great and productive 2017!!!

What an exciting job opportunity. Should be fun! I don’t do vision boards but I did decide to try using a planner this year. Guess what I haven’t actually opened yet? But I will! This week!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • J.L. Mbewe

Thank you! I love the visual aspect of the vision board for me. But I also like to write down my goals and use a planner. It helps to keep them fresh in my mind and keep my priorities. Straight. Or try to anyway. Ha! Hope you are inspired by your planner. ๐Ÿ™‚

      Thanks for stopping by!

I love your vision board! Also, I totally agree with you about 2017 blowing you out the water! The same happened to me as he Lord put on my heart to launch a blog tour business for Christian speculative authors and years ago I only dreamed of doing this. God is good! I am eagerly looking forward to helping authors this year and hope to continue to work on my WIP a little bit here and there. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Looking forward to one day meeting you at Realm Makers! ๐Ÿ˜€

    Yay Harry Potter reference! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Phew! Sounds like you’ve been busy, but I’m glad you got a chance to revamp your vision board. There’s a little bookmark on there that I particularly like. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I said goodbye to 2016 by….teaching at a conference. ANd then I forgot it was New Year’s Eve and I spent the first day of 2017…teaching at the conference. xD It was actually an incredible way to spend the New Year. I learned so much more about myself and left very encouraged.

I can’t wait to see what God does with you and your writing and your new job in this glorious new year! <3

    • J.L. Mbewe

Heehee! I’m glad you caught that! Both Hermoine’s quote and the bookmarks. Which I haven’t rightly thanked you yet, but I will!
I have been too busy and now I will be even busier. Ha! Teaching at a conference is so cool! And totally an awesome way to spend New Year’s eve. I went to bed early. Ha!

Thank you so much! We shall see how things unfold this year. Thanks for stopping by!

Oh my! I know the feeling of holding off on posting until you have something to announce. But then life interferes … and you just never post anything. At least you’re on the climax! That’s a tricky, delicate thing to write or revise. It has to be just right. Thank goodness you can revise it until it works. ๐Ÿ˜€

Wow, congrats on the job! I hope it works out really well for you guys!

    • J.L. Mbewe

      Thank you so much, Kessie!

This climax thing is killing me. Ha! I’m thinking of rereading/revising starting at the beginning again and maybe I will get fresh inspiration. Thanks for stopping by!

Oooooh – a vision board! I may have to think about doing that … in all my spare time. heh, heh, heh. Or maybe a Reading Swag Board. I have some wonderful swag from Nadine and also Ronie Kendig! ๐Ÿ™‚

My writing goal for 2017 is to finish the prequel to the fantasy novel a publishing house is considering RIGHT NOW. EEK! Also attend Realm Makers. EEK! EEK!

My personal goals for 2017 are to keep attending the Caregivers Support Group I found in December and to … well … unspoken at this point.

    Happy New Year!

    • J.L. Mbewe

Thank you! That’s great that a publishing house is considering one of your novels. Congrats! Reading Swag board sounds awesome. I’m getting visions of a board filled with snippets of all my favorite reads…. Yea for Realm Makers! And support groups!

Thank you for stopping by and Happy New year too! Happy writing!

  7. Jenelle

    Congrats on the new job!!

Glad to hear you’re still working on book 3… because I finished Darkened Hope and was like, “AHHHHHHH! NOOOOOOOOOOO!” So… I NEED to know how this all turns out! And I would like Desmond to get eaten by a shark. Slowly. Maybe pirhannahs. (I have no idea how to spell that fish) I know there’s a silent “h” in there somewhere, and I’m far too lazy to look it up right now.

I love your vision board. Wish Realm Makers could be part of my 2017…. but with a baby coming in April and the firm resolve “not to travel anywhere in 2017″ having been announced, I’m afraid it’s not going to happen. Maybe 2018. ๐Ÿ™‚

My goals are pretty simple. Finish the rough draft of Turrim 2. Publish Minstrel’s Call.

Secondary goals are to MAYBE polish up my Cinderella retelling and get it ready for publishing. Maybe. Maybe. Probably not. *Reminds self that baby is coming in April and much will not get done this year” I’d also love to draft up at least a good chunk of Turrim 3. But we shall see.

    • J.L. Mbewe

Oh my goodness! Congrats on the baby!!!!!! I totally understand, but I’m glad to see you have some goals. Well, hopefully one of these days we will meet up whether at Realm Makers or elsewhere. ๐Ÿ™‚

So glad you enjoyed Darkened Hope! Yes, I am almost done writing book 3, this pesky ending is killing me though. I might have to go back through it again to straighten out these knots. Ha!

Thanks so much for stopping by! And happy writing and getting ready for baby!

      • Jenelle

Thanks! I do hope Realm Makers is in my nearish future someday. ๐Ÿ™‚

Endings are rough! Best wishes as you sort it all out.

Also, I tagged you to share some snippets, if you want… no pressure!

        • J.L. Mbewe

Thank you! I do hope that RM will be in your nearish future someday, would love to meet you in person. ๐Ÿ™‚

And thanks for tagging. Will have to stop by and check it out. ๐Ÿ˜€

          Thanks for stopping by!

  8. E. E. Rawls

Congrats on the new job! And on working through book 3! Ooh, those huge battle scenes are tough to write, aren’t they? I’ve done small battle scenes, but have yet to tackle a huge one.

    • J.L. Mbewe

Thanks E.E. Rawls! Tackling the huge one is definitely a different beast. I know what is happening on the battle front on the grand scale of things, but getting down to the details to where each of the characters are and what they are doing and also still being able to convey what is happening around them has definitely been challenging. It is times like this I want to write in omniscient POV. ๐Ÿ˜€

But I do have to add…I had a major breakthrough this past week or so on this and the words are flowing!

      Thanks for stopping by!

      • E. E. Rawls

Omniscient POV would make it easier, definitely!

Awesome to hear that the words are flowing from your pen, now! Sometimes it takes our brains a while to come up with solutions (and of course, prayer helps). ๐Ÿ™‚

    Awesome update! Great to hear!!

I love hearing from you!
