NaNoWriMo & Over-Committing

Posted by on October 26, 2015

Greetings fellow adventurers!

What a crazy month this has been?

  • Facebook Party. Done. Amazing.
  • Prizes mailed out!
  • Goodreads Giveaway. Ends October 31st!
  • Revealed the C.O.R. Eep!
  • Chomping through Darkened Hope. DONE. But it’s off to one more beta reader and then one more pass before sending it to my editor! Eep! Deadline December 1st!

And November isn’t looking any better. In fact, it’s worse!!! Ha! I don’t know how I manage to over commit myself. But I have. Although, I have been very careful this year. Until now. Ha! So here’s what’s coming up:

  • Blog tours, interviews, and reviews. Oh my! I love connecting readers to possible new favorites. But I might have over done it for November. As much as I would like to help everyone….I just can’t. When will I learn? Ha!
  • National Novel Writing Month. I had planned on writing short story number FIVE this November. It’s been percolating on the back burner for more than a year, and it hasn’t flowed like the other ones. Probably because it’s more complex and will end up more like a novella. But if I can’t write it in the next couple of months, I might just have to let it go and move on, which means there won’t be a Tales of Nälu volume two before Darkened Hope releases. We shall see! I’ve joined a few NaNoWriMo  accountability groups, so here’s hoping!
  • An announcement of something fun and geeky cool coming in December. Eep! If you think I’ve been a bit ambitious this year, you should have seen the cool projects I’ve had to postpone for another year or so. Learning to live between reality and dreams is challenging!
  • Oh, and against my better judgement, I’m planning a combined birthday party for my munchkins. Can we say crazy?

How has your October been? Are you ready for November? Any special plans?

I am the queen of overcommitting myself, and my brain is feeling a bit splintered. I’ve started tracking how much time I spend on each project so I’ll have a better idea of how much I’ve actually got going on before I agree to new stuff. It helps!

    Congrats on all your successes!

      Thank you!
That sounds like a great idea. I need to do that! I’ve tried to come up with a time budget plan such as only one book to read a month, or no book reviews, because as much as I love reading and sharing stories, it’s a huge time vacuum. But then something awesome comes along. Ha! That being said, I probably need to write down said projects and time budget on paper instead of keeping it my head. It’s way too easy when I’m feeling good to say yes to everything. Ha! I did alright this year up until now. Ha! But it’s not too bad that it isn’t manageable. As long as can keep my head in the game! Thanks for stopping by!

Ack, I can totally relate!! I just had to halfway back out of two commitments I had made, 🙁 and it feels awful. I was getting far too strung out and overwhelmed with all the things I have to do and the people I feel duty toward to take care of them or do things for them. I did a big reevaluation over the past few days and have decided to severely cut back my social media use, stop accepting review copies of books (unless they’re something I would have bought to begin with) and even cut back my blogging for a couple of months, just so I can focus more on my immediate family and their many needs. I also feel the loud siren call of NaNo begging me to try it again… O.O Not sure I can make that work. BUT, maybe with all that extra time in the evening after cutting back Facebook and Twitter, I’ll have enough time to do more writing? 😀

I DO have some big November plans – an autumn costume party…we don’t throw parties very often, so this feels very ambitious! But then we’ve got December, and that’s so crazy busy I don’t even want to think about it! Haha. I’m flying to CA for a wedding and coming back just days before Christmas. 😛

Oh my! Costume party, wedding in CA, yeah, that’s crazy busy I’d say! Not to mention the regular parenting, work, schooling, all the life details we juggle as well. But it sounds like you’re taking care of yourself and your family by setting healthy boundaries. Social media can be a big time vacuum if we aren’t careful. I’m going to have to come up with a plan and a timer! As we get into December, I will be revisiting my vision board and looking at creating a “time budget” or something.

      Thanks for stopping by!

In the end, it is ALWAYS an opportunity to see God’s strength, stamina, and help along the way! Praying that it will ALL come together in His perfect way!

Thank you Camilla! As long as I didn’t bite off more than I can choose, going beyond what I should have done. Ha! Thanks for stopping by!

I love hearing from you!
