Progress Report

Greetings fellow adventurers!

I have embarked on a solo mission. Although, it’s been a year and half in the making, it’s finally happening. I have journeyed with Alt Wit Press for the release of my first three short stories and my novel, Secrets Kept. It’s been a great time of learning, and I’ve enjoyed working with them. But I’ve decided to transition to my own imprint. Ready for it?

What do you think?

So I’ve been quite busy preparing the stories and Secrets Kept to be re-released. And I am pleased to say this massively huge project is nearing its finishing line. All that’s left is to preview the paperback proofs of Tales of Nälu Volume I and Secrets Kept. And make sure all the formatting looks good on all e-reading devices. So hang tight if you were wanting to order a paperback, it should be available soon!

Next major project?

Darkened Hope of course!

Since I got my content edits back from my editor, I have added over 30,000 words to it. Can you believe that? Yeah, I write lean and fast, and then have to go back over and add, add, add. And here I was thinking book two was going to be smaller. Ha! It might yet, but I’m not done editing either.

I am currently getting it ready for the line edit, eek! Deadline I’ve set: June 1st. I have my doubts, but slow and steady wins the race, right?

And then: the cover art! Oh, I can’t wait!

I also have the beginnings of the 5th short story on the computer, but the rest is floating around in my head. Perhaps inspiration will strike!

Speaking of inspiration…I’ve got to be honest with you all. This past year my creative well has dried up and I haven’t been able to write anything new. It’s been like pulling teeth! AND this is the first in over ten years. I mean…I can’t even plan a proper menu or a grocery list anymore. Hey, I’m a Twilight Sparkle-type A personality.

BUT something VERY exciting happened and I just found out about it. So…Twilight Sparkle here is flipping out a little, and not with excitement. Ha!

I am going to a ladies retreat!! This weekend! I can’t remember if I’ve ever gone to one before. There will be silence! Time to refresh and refuel and be inspired! There will be games, food, music, words of encouragement, opportunities for canoeing, horseback riding, swimming, zip-lining, kayaking, massages!!! (I’m totally ignoring the fact there will be 100+ ladies there. *gulp*)

I am so looking forward to it, but I’m also freaking out. Why?

I have never been away from my kiddos for more than a couple of hours, except when I was in the hospital giving birth! Eep. I know we will ALL survive, hubby included. He’s already planning cool things to do with them. It will be a nice daddy-time for them. And I hope to relax and just be. Talk about a year of firsts!

Anyway, I will share a report when I get back. I hope you all have a great rest of the week!

All sorts of exciting things on your horizon! Have a blast at the ladies’ retreat! Sounds like fun! I’m getting to go on vacation with just the baby in about a month, so I kinda know how you feel. Never left my girls for more than a day or two before, and B and I will be gone for a whole week!

Thanks Jenelle! I think I will. I’ll try not to have too high of expectations. Ha!

Wow, a vacation with baby for a week?! I can feel the anxiety coming on just thinking about it!

Leaving your kiddos for the first time is tough but I’m sure they’ll have a blast with their dad! And I’m betting you’ll really enjoy your retreat, too. And very exciting news – Broken Seed is a great name! Looking forward to seeing all your hard work come to fruition!

    • J.L. Mbewe

Yeah, it’ll be tough, but good for all involved. Glad you liked the name! I’ve got so many exciting stories to tell. Can’t wait to share them with you all. Thanks for stopping by!

Love your imprint name and logo! Congratulations!

Also, congrats on going on a retreat. I love the weekends when I can go recharge with my girlfriends. Have a wonderful time!

    • J.L. Mbewe

Thank you! It is so perfect in so many ways I can’t even begin to describe it. I’m so glad you liked it! I don’t do as much recharging as I should, so I am looking forward to this! Although the anxiety is through the roof today. ha! Lots of changes in my routine this week, so…breathing through it and trying to remain calm. 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks Nadine! I am looking forward to it. It’s been long over due, so I’ve heard. ha! Thanks for stopping by!

Wow, starting your own imprint – that’s neat! 🙂 Best wishes in that endeavor! And have a wonderful time at the retreat. I go to yearly weekend-long women’s retreats through church, and they are always wonderful and relaxing. 🙂

    • J.L. Mbewe

      Thanks Bethany, on both accounts!

Imprint: It has been quite an endeavor thus far. I look forward to seeing where it will go.

That’s awesome that you are able to go to a weekend-long retreat annually. I definitely hope to make a habit out of setting aside time to refuel and relax. Thanks for stopping by!

This is so exciting! Of course, it is also a lot of work but always worth it.

I really like the logo and wish you all the best with the new venture. I write just like you, road runner style. Beep beep and I’m gone. I call it a 26 mile sprint. Just get the plot and characters down and fill in the details later. I try to stick to word count goals, but in the end I usually end up going over. Hopefully your editor knows when to reign things in and when to let the faucet flow a little.

Have a wonderful time on the retreat!

    • J.L. Mbewe

Thanks DJ! The retreat was very nice! I will be posting about it tomorrow! Glad you liked the logo and thank you for the well-wishes!

YES! Beep, beep, and I’m gone. That’s why I have love NaNoWriMo, but since having my second born, I haven’t been able to really tackle it again. Might be because I have plenty of rough drafts of awesome stories waiting to be fleshed out and so far, NaNo hasn’t been the place for that. My editor has been pretty awesome and my critique pals. I would not be able to bring this story to where it needs to be without them.

      Thanks for stopping by!

I love hearing from you!
